Senior citizens are a huge part of the LGBTQ+ community, but they don’t get as much coverage as their younger counterparts. AARP teamed up with News Is Out, a coalition of six LGBTQ+ publishers, to spark conversation about the oft-ignored seniors in the queer community.

Each publisher took on an article, and I was tasked with addressing senior isolation — an issue only worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to integrate AARP into the conversation, I spoke with representatives at two LGBTQ+-care facilities about their community building efforts centering senior citizens. AARP’s offerings fit right in with the work these two organizations are already doing, creating a cohesive narrative
